OK, I will be the first to admit that I "purchased" this book through Kindle Unlimited because I had read Ms. Hunt's name on a list of horror writers to pay attention to (because of a novel she wrote called Ritualistic Human Sacrifice) and I was interested in checking out her work. Also, when I was looking through her list of works, the sample provided for this novella appealed enough to me that I clicked to buy and started reading.... and I am really glad I did.Despite the apparent grimness of the subject matter (who wants to punch a baby??) this is a very well written and darkly humorous novella, one that draws you in with the narrative voice and doesn't let you go until Ms. Hunt is finished with you.
If this novella is any indication of C. V. Hunt's ability to entrance her readers with a good story, she is definitely an author whose work I want to follow. And I am about to find out (Ritualistic Human Sacrifice, here I come!! Waitaminute.... that doesn't sound right....)

Baby Hater edition by CV Hunt Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I have to admit I found myself smiling and nodding my head a lot while reading this story. I would not do violence to someone's child but if you've ever been in line behind a spoiled, screaming, obnoxious brat in a store, you may have briefly considered it. Have an appreciation for dark humor if you're going to read this book, if not maybe you need to read a different genre. From beginning to end, this book was a satisfying read, loved it!
I was intrigued and picked up this short story. At the end of the first page, I dumped it out. The lack of intelligent vocabulary makes this a waste of time.
A short read about a barren woman’s hate of babies, her superhero career as a puncher of babies, her copycat rival and the birth of a new age.
It’s about as good as it sounds.
I personally don't understand what seems to me to be an epidemic of baby hating that occurs a lot in certain places (mostly online). That being said, I approached this book as an interested reader and tried my best to take it for the fiction that it is. I found that, while the main character is a bit lacking as far as empathy from me for the character goes, the fun twists throughout the story are totally worthwhile. (Spoiler alert) I especially loved the part where she dressed up as the Grinch and solicited money before punching the baby while running and spilling the ill-gotten gains. That was hilarious!
Why didn't I read this sooner? I could've been the Baby Hater for Halloween. Well, I still can dress as her for like a trip to the grocery store or something.
I can relate to this. I am an infertile woman in her late 30s. I don't quite hate babies enough to punch them. I'm just not that into them. This was an awesome story, where you can just feel the hate. I'd suggest reading this with Gina Ranalli's MOTHERPUNCHER.
For the record I am a father of three and should be offended by this but I found it more funny than offensive. Let's be honest here and admit that we have all wanted to punch a baby but common sense always prevails. At least it should if your a sane rational human being.
C.V. Hunt has written a short but funny novellette that gives a voice to a variety of different problems in our society. The Baby Hater will probably offend a few people but so what! The bizarro genre isn't for everyone and once you actually read Baby Hater you can see that the baby puncher did have the best of intentions.
C.V. Hunt is becoming one of those novelists you have to read. She is immensely talented and despite the subject matter Baby Hater is well written and darkly funny.
...Which to be frank, I thought I couldn't. Sometimes I'm a bit of a pansy with violence in books. I mean, I've read American Psycho and a list of Jack Ketchum, but there's something about random acts of street violence that really turn the screws in my fear-um-obligottis(that's a made up word). Anyway, I read the description and was like, this could either be stomach-turning transgressive piece or this could be a light satire. So for .99 I took a cheap gamble. The result is somewhere in-between.
Baby Hater reads almost like a Fight Club via a child-free woman. And instead of fighting each other, she (and eventually they) take their frustrations out on out squishing, pooping future spoiled brats. And the idea of punching infant in the face for sport would initially turn my stomach, but the way Hunt writes keeps you engaged, a little horrified, but over-all able to accept these levels of degeneracy without coming out needing a week-long shower or anything.
My only complaint would be that I wish I could have learned a little bit more about this crazy trend our "hero" has spawned.
This was a fun story that definitely doesn't tread the same worn path as other. Easily worth the asking price.
